Vkontakte community widget for Joomla 3 and Joomla 4
The module allows you to publish a widget with information about the community from the social network Vkontakte.
Installing the module
Log in to your site’s control panel.
In the menu of the admin panel, on the left side of the site go to «System»
On the page that opens, in the center, find the section «Install» – «Extensions» and go into it.
You will see a page with an extension installation manager.
Click on the green button, the explorer will open, which should select the archive obtained by downloading from IWS.BY for Joomla 4.
After successful installation, a green notification will appear in the Extension Installation Manager.
Obtaining a Vkontakte Community ID
Before you start configuring the module, you need to get the ID of your community, for which the widget will be displayed.
Go to your community page on the social network Vkontakte.
On the right side of the page that opens, find the menu item «Statistics».
Pay attention to the address bar in your browser, it contains an identifier of the Vkontakte community.
The number 111111111 – this is a unique numeric identifier of the Vkontakte community. Write it down.
Configuring the module
Go to the list of installed modules in the admin panel by the path «System» – «Manage» – «Site Modules».
In the list, find the module «IWS.BY Widget community VK». Click on it and you will see a page with the available module settings. Consider each field below.
Field «License key»
In this field, enter the license key obtained when downloading the module from the IWS.BY website. Without the key in this field, the module will not be able to access the update server and automatically update.
Option «Connect OpenAPI VK?»
This option is responsible for connecting the public API of the Vkontakte social network to your site. If you already have the public Vkontakte API connected, then select “No” in the option. Without the public API, widgets from the Vkontakte social network will not work on your site.
Field «Community ID»
In the field, enter the numeric identifier of the community in the Vkontakte social network, the information about which you want to display in the widget. How to find the community ID is described on the page above, in the section «Obtaining a Vkontakte Community ID».
Option «Display mode»
This option is responsible for the mode of information displayed on the community widget. There are a total of three options for displaying information. Let’s look at each.
1. Members – the widget will display members who are members of the community. This version of the widget looks like this:
2. News – the widget will display a feed with the latest entries from the community. This version of the widget will look like this:
3. Only title – the widget will display only the name of the community with a subscribe button. This version of the widget looks very simple:
Option «Do not use cover art»
If you check this option, the cover art uploaded to the community will not be displayed in the widget.
Option «Widget width view»
The option is responsible for the type of width applied to the widget. Automatic – the width of the widget will be equal to the width of the block. Specify width – the width will be set to the widget from the field «Widget width».
Field «Widget width»
The field is filled with a fixed width of the widget, which is specified as a number in pixels.
Option «Background color»
The option specifies the background color in the block with the widget. The value is specified in HEX format.
Option «Text color»
The option specifies the color of the text in the block with the widget. The value is specified in HEX format.
Option «Button color»
The option specifies the color of the buttons in the block with the widget. The value is specified in HEX format.
The module is activated as usual. To do this you need to:
1. Select the desired position in the template, where the widget should be displayed in the «Position» option, on the right side of the module settings page.
2. Below will be the «Status» option. Toggle the value in the option to «Published».
3. The final step is to bind the module to the pages on the site.
At the top of the settings on the module page, switch to the «Menu Assignment» tab.
On the open tab, there will be one field «Module Assignment».
Select the pages on which you want the module to be displayed in the module. In the example, «On all pages» is selected – the module will be displayed on all pages, on the selected position.
Click the «Save» button to save all the settings and display the module on your site.
